September 2017 sees the fifth year of running the New Wine Discipleship Year program out of SMB as the regional Training Centre. It’s a program for 18-24 year olds who are keen to give time to explore more about themselves, about working in and for a church and, most importantly, about Jesus – what it means to be one of His passionate disciples and how to get more involved with the work of His Kingdom.
The committed interns give 20 hours a week to the program – 12 of which are used serving in a particular ministry in a church by stepping out in faith, and for 8 of which they receive inspiring theological teaching and training at the Training Centre. The teaching day is each Thursday of term-time when the quality teaching stems from New Wine filmed materials, local speakers and church leadership.
There is also the opportunity to go on a short-term mission trip with New Wine International towards the end of the academic year.
We have had interns based here at SMB, some from Holy Trinity Sittingbourne and there are opportunities afoot to expand the group of placement churches within the Kent area.
The DY program takes young people on a life-changing journey of discovery and adventure for the glory of God! Long may it continue…
